Counselling is a form of talking therapy, in which the client and the therapist engage on a level deeper than the everyday conversation. It is not always necessary, but you may wish to go back into the past in order to gain a better understanding of the present.
Counselling can be a life line, an invaluable support structure, a source of 'food for thought' or just the one hour a week, in which you are allowed to express yourself freely in a non-judgemental and safe environment.
What Benefits can be expected?
Counselling can help you get life into perspective (again). Most people - when faced with difficult and distressing life situations - will experience a feeling of relief very early on, merely due to the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings freely.
Further down the line, client and therapist will have the opportunity to look at the root causes of the client's distress, which will eventually bring about a greater awareness of oneself together with an enhanced ability to face life's challenges.
